My Approach to Counseling
You are not just a diagnosis and a session fee.
You are a unique individual, going through your own set of unique challenges, in your own cultural context. That means you need your own unique plan and method to be successful. There is not a one size fits all approach when it comes to your situation and it is my pleasure to find that path with you.
Approach to Counseling
As an eclectic, integrative counselor, I come from a humanistic counseling philosophy. This means that I focus on you as an individual, rather than categorizing you with others having the same challenges. I look at the whole person, and place emphasis is on your positive traits and behaviors, and the ability to use your personal instincts to find wisdom, growth, healing, and fulfillment within yourself.
Techniques
Integrative counseling means I use various methods to reach solutions to issues and concerns. While I use various forms of therapy such as Gestalt, Solutions Focused, Reality, REBT and more, three forms I often find myself using the most are:
-
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT): A mindfulness-based therapy that seeks to not avoid unpleasant experiences, but to create a rich and meaningful life by taking effective action guided by our deepest values and in which we are fully present and engaged.
-
Internal Family Systems/Parts Therapy identifies and addresses sub-personalities or families within each person’s mental system. These sub-personalities consist of the internal critic and self-confidence and painful emotions such as anger and shame, and parts that try to control and protect the person from the pain of the wounded parts. These approaches focus on healing the wounded parts of our internal world and restoring mental balance and harmony.
-
Narrative therapy views people as separate from their problems. This allows some distance from the issue to see how it might be helping or protecting them, more than it is hurting them. Individuals feel more empowered to make changes and “rewrite” their life story for a future that reflects who they are, what they are capable of, and what their purpose is, separate from their problems.

Reviews for Ace Glaspy, MS, LPC-MHSP, CCTSI
-
"Ace is fantastic. He is patient and incredibly helpful and supportive. I wish I would have found him sooner."
-
"Ace has helped me overcome so much, from my confidence, strengthening my relationship with my boyfriend, anxiety and even random plot twists I throw at him constantly. He has not only been an amazing counselor but has also become my friend. I’m so thankful our paths crossed !"
-
"Ace is easy to talk to. I trust him. He is actually making efforts to help me, rather than just listening to me talk."
-
"Ace is the tough love friend I never knew I needed! He holds me accountable to goals I’ve set for myself while walking me through growth and learning. I’ve tried other counselors before but something clicked with Ace."
-
"I would highly recommend Ace for someone who is unable to make sense of his emotions, understand them or deal with them. He makes it easier to see the truth. He cares, a stranger who cares is unlikely to find. The right ingredients for a safe forum to vent and reflect."
